Hello fellow Twitterer
Hello, and thank you for clicking on the link from my Twitter profile. It now gives me the opportunity to introduce myself and for you then to decide if you would like to follow me on Twitter.
My name is Andrea and I live in the Canary Islands, a group of Spanish governed islands off the west coast of north Africa, on the island of Lanzarote. Coming here initially to work ´for the summer´I found that six months quickly turned into one year, and one year soon turned into another and then another, and suddenly I found that a decade had passed in what seemed to be the blink of an eye.
Initially, my spare time was spent relaxing and enjoying the marvellous beaches here however, I soon realised that this island had much more to offer than just these. Hiking has always been a passion of mine, and what better way to utilise spare time than exploring my surroundings. Extensively hiking over the island throughout the past years, I thought that it would be a nice idea to share the numerous routes with others so that they too could enjoy the hidden secrets that this island holds. Lanzarote is a volcanic island and can seem baron on first impression. However, the diversity of the island, its ontrasting colours and sheer number of volcanoes (over 300) make it an island full of surprises and places of interest for both tourists and locals alike.
My Blog
OutdoorLanzarote aims to give alternative outdoor pursuit ideas to others to enable them to explore and discover Lanzarote for themselves without having to try and catch it all through a tour bus, or car, window. Although I have previously done the hikes that I am going to be adding onto my blog, I now need to go back and retrace my steps so that I can take down details and distances enabling me to provide acurate descriptions to those wishing to complete these hikes. Along the way, I will be adding additional information that is relevant to the places hiked through each time. For example, when I give details about a hike through the wine region here on the island, I will then add a further post giving details of one of the many vineyards and of wine production etc.
Future Plans
My intention is also to broaden the scope of activities available, not to just covering hiking. I would also like to cover other outdoor activities available here on Lanzarote too:- mountain biking, scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing, surfing, horse riding, kite surfing and paragliding to name a few.
What else I enjoy doing
Apart from hiking, I also enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving where I am one task away from gaining my PADI qualification. I also love cooking and frequently enjoy experimenting with new ingredients and recipes.
If you haven´t already done so, please follow me on Twitter so that you can be kept up to date with what I am doing, and where I am hiking to.
I look forward to Tweeting with you and please sign up to my RSS or e´mail subscription link to enable you to receive updates every time I post something new onto my blog.
