What is Outdoor Lanzarote?
Outdoor Lanzarote came to life from an idea of mine whereby I offer walking and alternative outdoor pursuit ideas, for both residents and visitors alike, who wish explore a more rural side of Lanzarote, enabling them to discover the islands hidden gems and diverse beauty that it has to offer as seen from a different perspective.
So who am I and why Lanzarote?
My name is Andrea. I was born and raised in Leicestershire in the U.K. In 1994 I drove 15,000 miles around the United States and on returning home, couldn´t seem to settle back into the old routine. So, I uprooted myself from there to come and work ´for the summer´ on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Well, that was twelve years ago now. Since being here, I have realised that there is definately more on offer on this volcanic island than just beaches and nightlife and so, armed with my passion for walking, I have decided to share these thoughts and ideas with you along with alternative outdoor pursuit options. The posts will be updated regularly giving ´on the spot´details and descriptions.
So, what´s this blog about?
It is a blog aimed to show people a different way of exploring the island by getting away from the typical tourist bus tours where you find that you only have a limited time to discover the places that you are shown. Initially, I will cover walking tours showing parts of this impressive island that can´t be viewed from a car or bus window. I then aim to show the numerous alternative outdoor pursuits available here ranging from kayaking, diving, mountain biking, surfing and horse riding, to name a few. By living on the island, I am able to offer up to date information and advice on each of the activities that I present on this site. Due to the location of this group of islands, just off the west coast of Africa, the temperature for outdoor activities, whether on land or in the ocean, is constant for the most part of the year. In winter it rarely falls below 19º-20º, and in the summer months the trade winds help to keep the temperature from becoming too stifling.
What can you do now?
On the right hand side of the page, you can search in the ´categories´section for walks on specific parts of the island or merely have a look through the archives. Oh, and
don´t forget you can also subscibe to my RSS feed so that you can see when I add new posts.
I am glad that you have stopped here and hope that you will be joining me in getting out and exploring this magical island!

Hi Andrea,
What a great initiative! I hope one of your next ventures will be El Volcán de la Corona in the north, which I think offers one of the most stunning and surprising routes – or maybe you can show me something new, when I am back on our beautiful island in a couple of weeks.
Again, well done – I look forward to reading more!
